   This American Life had a story recently where a woman talked about how her dad sang this song growing up and randomly quoted other sayings from The Jerk and never bothered to tell her that he was referencing a movie. She thought she was just a weirdo until she saw the movie.

   All that to say, I love that this song is being taught to campers. It’s kind of a subversive way of making them all love Steve Martin without actually knowing who Steve Martin is yet.

     I’ve been singing this song for years and I never realized it was from The Jerk. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the movie. Thanks for pointing this out. Hilarious.
